A wide cage (at least 18 inches long) is better than a tall one, so they can fly side to side.

The bar spacing in a finch cage should be no more than ½ inch to prevent escapes or injuries. If the bars are too wide, finches may get their heads stuck. Avoid cages with vertical bars, as finches prefer horizontal bars for better stability and grip.
